Matt makes paintings and sculptures by exploring locations, taking site specific information and regurgitating it in to bright colourful pieces or environmental kinetic forms. He also questions what it is to be human and explores emotional responses to news and stories. These will be the more figurative pieces but Matt often describes all of his work as self portraits, that they are so linked to a moment and mark making that he can not be eliminated from that action.

Matt was born in 1970 and has made and exhibited at different stages throughout his life.

In 2021 Matt has been shortlisted by the Royal Academy of Art for their Summer Exhibition.

He teaches art and runs a group for young autistic people in which he says they can make anything from art to androids. ‘The young people keep me solving creative problems and learning new techniques’ says Matt. He enjoys teaching animation, game design and likes to explore electronics and anything the young people want to do.

“Being recognised by the Royal Academy is amazing and has encouraged me to take my art career a lot more seriously. I hope to exhibit further afield over the next few years. Thank you for visiting my website”
